EL CAJON, Calif. -- An El Cajon police officer is recovering after accidentally shooting himself during a drug raid in East County.

It happened Wednesday morning while the officers were raiding a home on North Bonita Street in Casa De Oro.

Police said one of the officers was walking through the backyard and he tripped over some debris.

That's when his gun went off and shot him in the foot.

Six people who were inside the home were arrested on drug charges.

What if the bullets trajectory wasn't towards his foot. The bullet could have gone over into the neighbors yard and hit a young black kid. :wtc:

I guess now Andy is going to have to make him carry one bullet in his shirt pocket instead of loaded in his gun.

First, cops have ADs, the rest of us have NDs.

Second, the article clearly states the gun "went off." It does not mention him pulling the trigger.

    AD all the way.

It is highly unlikely that his weapon malfunctioned. The only other possibility was that he was using it improperly.

At least he didn't shoot someone else. It's to put holes in yourself....But not in your partner(s)
