$200 will only get you some kit lens...

Save up and get a 17-50 f/2.8 from Tamron.

for $300 or less... I would look into used gear or just pick up some temporary kit lens. The 18-55 canon kit lens sucks, just fyi.

If you pick up the "thrifty fifty"... it'll limit your ability to discover which focal range you like. Although, it is pretty cheap + fast.

What do you like/want to shoot?

poor and photography don't really go well together :o

you're not going to get a very decent lens for anything south of $300+ except for the fifty :hs:

i dont mind buying used lenses.... do you have a link for a thrifty fifty? i think i'm going to start off with a lot of action shots, ie skateboarding, beer pong etc etc. i was joking around about the poor statement, i just dont want to drop a lot of coin on something i'm not 100 percent sure about. thanks again
