any info at all would be helpful. interested in renting a 70-200L lens for the nyc marathon in a few weeks. any places in nyc area to rent? friend in TX says he needs a tax ID to rent. is that necessary?

    thanks.

B&H rents, I think. Last I heard, you just need a credit card as a deposit, and you best return it on time.

if you have enough advance, try http://www.rentglass.com/

Used them many times, pretty happy with the service. Good quality lenses.

definitely...i've rented two lenses so far from them and the price can't be beat. local camera shop wants $80/day for a 70-200 f/2.8 when I "can" get it from rentglass.com for the same price...FOR A WEEK!

only shitty deal is waiting for your lens to become available. He definately runs out of his stock way fast. Can't believe he hasn't bought a lot more lenses yet. Shit, I'd throw down some cash for a piece of that action.

rentglass.com maybe cheaper, but seems like everyone complaining they never have stuff in stock. i'll just rent from fotocare.com and adorama.com. they both have stores in nyc, so it's easy for me to pickup. weekend rental = one day rental cost anyways, so i'm fine with that.

reserved the 70-200mm f/2.8 for the weekend of the nyc marathon :bigthumb:

gf is running in it, so instead of just standing at different points of the race with a thumb in my ass, figured i'd do some shooting.

ok, thinking of changing my mind and renting through an online place, lensrentals.com. $82 for the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS for 1wk with insurance, and includes shipping. i like how this place offers insurance so you dont have to pay the full cost of lens value if damaged/stolen. only have to pay 8-10% of lens value. AND also like the fact that they dont put a hold on your CC.

    still thinking about it :coold:
