I'm thinking of picking up the 18-105 lens very soon, heard nothing but good things about with its ED glass and having VR is a plus. I'm a beginner so this will be a step up for me, what are your opinons on the lens? not sure If I should/need to stretch for the 18-200. Thanks!

What lens(es) do you currently have? Which body?

18-105 or 18-200 will both be good for you.

they aren't the best lenses nikon makes, and aren't great for indoor shooting without a flash, but they are good for getting used to the entire focal range before you dump $1200 on pro glass.
