So one of my friends just told me that the reason people are stocking up on ammo is because the government is trying to put a shelf life on ammunition. "My Dad works for the government and they told him".

    :wtf: is he talking about

Well that's sound logic, at least something he said makes sense.

Ask him to kindly specify which piece of legislation or executive action is going to create this change.

Then laugh at his retardedness when he fails to produce said proof.

FYI, almost 99% of the people who work for the government are total idiots. That, and the .gov has so many departments that somebody could claim to be an insider by being a .gov employee and have nothing to do with firearms. Example: my grandma used to work for the EPA. They work with the government. Do I think she is qualified to tell me about firearms legislation? No. She's old and worked as a secretary.

They're members of a tribe out here on the coast. I'm pretty sure that he works for their government, but my friend claims it's the US government.

As soon as he told me I said "link to peer reviewed study plz". Nothing other than an "lol" :hsugh:

He pretty much stopped talking about it after I said "I just googled it. Google doesn't even know about it."

How would this law be enforced, anyway? It would be completely impossible without an egregrious violation of the 4th amendment...

Nobody is going to walk up to a house and ask if someone's ammunition is still good. That's a scene from a b-rated action flick.

    Snap!

I'm guessing they would somehow make the materials degrade?

I, for one, am glad they are made of good materials currently. My wife dumped my box of Winchester in the parking lot of Walmart last night. Just poured it back in the box. :coolugh:

In last month's issue of American Rifleman there's an article about how the government went around and took inventory of people's firearms/ammo after Katrina.

They also confiscated firearms and got sued because of it, didn't they? I thought it had something to do with the city government.

Yeah I dunno, that sounds more accurate. I remember something seeming really wrong with the article, maybe it was a lot more recently than Katrina i'll check when I get home.

This rumour is old as fuck, and stemmed from the run on primers in '94. My Speer reloading book mentions it.

Basically, it is chemically impossible to make a modern non corrosive primer that is both reliable, and also has a shelf life. Primers that are both non corrosive and lead free due have self lives though, and are mostly meant for cops shooting in indoor ranges to reduce aerosolized lead exposure.

There are plenty of people who are ignorant of gun facts.

99% of people in real life are. Every asshole tells me to file the firing pin on my AR to make it shoot full auto, lolololol

Everyone knows it's the firing pin spring that needs to be swapped out
