i'm building a romy AK kit into an SBR and I have a sipmle question

would it be legal for me to build the entire rifle but leave the stock off until I get my stamp back? technically that would make it a pistol since it wouldn't have a stock so I should be ok, right?

Bad idea. You'd be able to take a stock off another firearm would be their ruling I would assume.

The rifle is on the books as a rifle not a pistole ... it would be deemed as illegally modified with or without the stock

so i guess my best course of action is either to file for the stamp then build the rifle or build the rifle, file for the stamp then have the barrel cut down?

Best bet is to establish patience. If people had patience, wouldnt have to ask these gray area questions.

    Wait for approval, then build.

If you're bending it from a flat you can build it as a pistol. You'll have to put a pistol trunnion in though. It cannot be able to accept a stock. You'll then have to drill out the pistol trunnion when you get your paperwork back and put in a regular one.

You can go from pistol to rifle, but never rifle to pistol.

Save yourself some trouble though and just wait to build until you get your paperwork back.

Just curious if there's an actual reason for this or not? Or is it just feel good law shit :mamoru:

I said it in another thread, but I'd hold off assembling it past being a normal rifle until I had the approval :o Build it as a regular AK, get approval, cut barrel down :dunno:

Better safe than sorry when it comes to this kind of shit :o

    Take a wild guess ;) I'm sure it's a feel good law.

It's easy enough to have your barrel cut down after you build it. The hardest part I think would be pressing out the barrel with the rear trunnion in place. I know there's ways around it that shouldn't be too difficult.
