I broke my PR today with a 415 bench and unfortunately there is NO power lifters at my gym to assist me with anything from spots to form help.

    Couple questions...
Does a legal bench require you to lift the bar off the rests, or, can someone assist you?
Can the spotter hold the bar (with 0 pressure) down and up?
Do you have to replace the bar on the rests unassisted?
Can wrist wraps be used and be counted as raw?

Reason is, I had to get some kid to spot me today, I just grabbed the largest guy in the gym and unsure of his experience, I just told him I would like help off the rests and for him to just hold the bar down and up so in case of trouble, I dont have to wait for him to grab it in a panic.

On a funny note, im pretty sure my form sucks ass as I remember on the up-push with the 415 that my legs were shaking, not firmly planted under the seat LOL.
    Man, I wish I trained in a harder-core gym.

    From what iv seen
    you get a lift off
no holding the bar during lift
    you get a assist back
    wrist wraps count as raw
    again from what iv seen

    ehh...not necessarily...

you basically can not bounce the bar but how long you have to pause it depends on the head judge.

i think most rule books just say that it has to be motionless before the press command is given.

Its a gym lift so who cares?

The only thing is I wouldn't want anyone touching the bar so no it didn't count :p

bleh, next time i will just get a bigger spotter and not worry about having him hold the bar.

Only reason I went for 415 today was that there seems to be a fuckton of alot of teenagers that can e-bench 405

Well I say that because you know how when you hit failure then your buddy "holds the bar" but claims to not actually "help" you with the ITS ALL YOU BRO shit and you magically crank out 5 more reps?

Yeah. I'm sure you could nail it again just make sure theres no physical contact.

Oh im not argueing the "its all you" stuff, 2 hands on the bar can easily assist 10lbs of pressure without meaning it.
We've all seen guys at the gym working with their buddies and the spotter is lifting 30% of the weight screaming "ITS ALL YOU!!!"

its not legal or illegal if its done in a non competition setting.. training lifts don't really mean anything unfortunately

a legal bench a significant pause on the chest too.

and no yopu cannot keep your hands "hovering" because chances are they touched it. that's why it's not allowed.
