I didn't think that these were made. After fumbling with pistols and getting hot brass in the face/down the back of my neck, I'm pumped to hear that parts are made to make an AR a lefty gun, at least partially. :x: Are there brands to avoid, how much more should I expect to pay? Issues with them in general? Are they even worth it? I can handle right handed guns, but if it's easier as a left handed person, and prevents me from getting dirty brass marks on my face, arms, and down my back, I'd prefer it.:noes:

This is me shooting Market Garden's AR. You can see how close my face is to the ejection port. :hsd:

there shouldnt be an issue with lefties and ARs that have brass deflectors (most uppers do).

    YMMV

yea i generally have no issue except once in a while a brass casing hits me in the cheek or something, probably caused by the divider between lanes though.

extend that stock 1 notch. Put your head about 1" farther back. You're way too close IMO.

I'm a lefty also. I shoot my handguns lefty. But I shoot my rifles righty. But I'm right eye dominate.

I just shot the rifles right handed until it felt natural. Didnt take long. Very easy to pick up.

If the shell deflector was doing it's job, it shouldnt hit you though. Maybe it might hit your right shoulder since you're so close to it. Maybe try squaring up just a little bit more.

Yeah, the stock shoulda been extended more. I was trying not to mess with MG's configuration. MG's gun doesn't have a shell deflector I don't think, so that would make a difference. Perhaps I'll coerce him into buying one before I make a decision on an upper.

Stag makes lefty uppers and they are quite good. No issues to worry about other than the parts being slightly less easy to get. I'd get some spares when you buy it just to have on hand. I believe the special parts are all in the bolt and carrier.

I wouldnt hesitate to get one if you want a lefty version.

I own a Stag Arms Model 6L Super Varminter (left handed upper) its pretty awesome. Stag Arms is known to be a good company/make excellent parts etc and they have great customer service.

    this is mine.

but as awesome as it is, left handed uppers aren't really necessary, brass was never a problem for me, my shotgun and other rifle are right handed and my gf and another friend are both lefty shooters and they all use right handed rifles as well. however if this is going to be your rifle and you plan on building it or customizing it I'd say go lefty if its gonna make you happy, plus it'll piss off your friends :bigthumb:

EDIT: shoulda taken the pic from the other side :o

I've never had any issues shooting "standard" ARs.

or any firearms for that matter.

Market Garden's parents have a cabin near Mount Baker and there are a ton of gravel pits off the logging roads that are legal to shoot at.

Man, I must suck at being a lefty. It seems like nobody else gets brass to the face but me!:wtc:

Well you said MG's doesnt have a shell deflector. With 1, you shouldnt have a problem shooting lefty. But you should try shooting it right hand a couple of times. Or even just holding/shouldering it at home. And damn, that's mad far.

I want to check if my spot is open off I-5 but dont want to drive all the way up there and find it's closed. :hs:

I'm left eye dominant and it feels really uncomfortable to pull the trigger with my right hand.:hs:

I use my right hand for scissors. Growing up while in school, they never had any left hand scissors in class. Had to learn to use them. :o

I guess I'm just an odd lefty. :hs:

I can never keep up in the Seattle crew threads, and the cost of a sub isn't worth just looking at those threads.
