I wasn't going to be leaving until sometime around the end of the year, but I volunteered to take someone's spot that dropped out of the DEP.

    Wow, I'm nervous as hell.

Take as little with you as possible.

    Keep your mouth shut.

Do what you are told, you are not paid to think.

    Don't step on the chrome.

Good luck. When you get done, make sure you forward us any transcripts so you can get your CCAF degree. What's your AFSC.

Take a video camera so we can see what it is like. Seems like the cool thing to do these days is record the experience and put it on youtube.

Army folk, this isn't basic training is it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxrrqltOVyg&feature=related Probably a follow on school right? At the end of the video, do you think these guys were smart enough to slide a paper under the mouth of the gatorade bottle before they picked it up, or am I expecting too much?

i booked the general aptitude area, since thats what the girl had that im taking the place of. but i don't mind since the jobs i did want at first aren't opening up any time soon. and now i have a larger choice of jobs once i get up there, rather than just the 4 from MEPS

OMG never pick open general. You dont get what you pick. My old commander when I was in 342nd Combat Training SQ on the medina annex at Lackland got in huge trouble for working with the people that do retraining and all that and putting people in jobs that werent even what they picked and just filling what needed to be filled. I ran into so many former EOD that were put as a 3C0 when 3C0's were needed back in 01-03 even though they put down stuff so different then that. Oh and I remember a guy who failed pararescue that was put into finance... wtf?

Now that you mention it, it did seem like there were a lot of failed EODs in 3C2 school. I worked with two of them.

Have fun on vacation. I'd go back to bootcamp just to get the family sep. Do what you're told, keep your mouth shut, study and clean in your free time. Before you know it, you'll be done. Try and enjoy it for what it's worth.

    man? :hsugh:

I've talked to many people, and went to talk to some RAP'rs yesterday, 2 of them went in open general. The biggest piece of advice from everyone was "don't be stupid and put down something that you don't want to do, because chances are you'll get it"

Even the worst jobs can end up being good. As an nco crew chief I sit in an office and listen to a radio all day. I watch TV most of the night and prepare a few small books of information for higher ups to read in the morning. It's pretty cake. I'd do this for the rest of my life if I had no desire to move up. I'll be honest, though, it can suck pretty hard for the first few years.
