I like the leatherman because it has other things besides a blade, and that particular model blade is high-grade steel.

I don't like the leathermade because the locking mechanism is locking liner, not as strong as benchmade's axis lock.

I like the benchmade for it's quality blade and axis locking and general quality with the brand.

i don't like it because it's only a blade, when it could be a little more utility-wise.

price is about $15 difference with the griptilian starting around $70. the knife will be carried for protection (and maybe utility if choosing the leatherman)

i wondering if the leatherman might be a little too big for a normal carry (does it fit well in the front pocket of jeans?)

any suggesstions? i know both tools seem to be good brands and quality, i'm just wondering if the leatherman's liner lock is strong enough to handle tough jobs.

leatherman all the way, i have a regular leatherman wave, and it is always on my belt, the thing is just so freaken handy!!! the only problems ive had is the tools got really tight after the first couple months, but it loosened up a short while after... then i broke the tip of one of the plyers off :o my own stupid fault, so i just ground the other one down to match it... all in all the thing is probably going to last me forever

    No. Okay? No.
Get the Benchmade. That particular blade is excellent and you'll never have any problems with the AXIS lock. And all the leatherman has extra is a screwdriver. When was the last time you were out on the street and said "Damn, if only I had a screwdriver on my person!"? Get the 556.

I agree w/ the serrated, but why the tanto? It's less cutting area, and unless you intend to be stabbing stuff hardcore, there's no advantage. Looks sexy though.

It really depends what you want it for. Myself I carry a knife for cutting. If I needed a tool I'd have a Gerber on me.

BTW Many people are boycotting Leatherman, after the owner used company money to back a certain anti gun candidate.

    Definitely the Benchmade.

Are Leatherman's even made in the USA anymore? I bought a Leatherman Wave a few months ago and the fuckin thing was made in Taiwan.
