Nobody has this damn thing. Should I settle for the f1.8, or do you guys have a suggestion?

I don't like eBay and I already checked craigslist. If I find a reputable seller on eBay and I can't find one anywhere else, I might settle for that.

I have a 50 f/1.4. It's a really fucking nice lens but in reality I almost never ever ever use it wide open.

But here's the thing..since it's f/1.4 vs f/1.8..it means that at f/1.8 and beyond it will be sharper than the f/1.8. Get it?

I get it, is there a huge sharpness difference between the two lenses at lets say f3.5?

I really don't think so. I honestly don't think you'll notice a difference between the two, with the exception being able to shoot at f/1.4.

honestly it could be true. but all i'm saying is that 50mm lenses have been around since practically the beggining of time, so it's pretty hard to buy a shitty 50mm f/1._ lens now days. my 50 is arguably one of the sharpest lenses I own..and also the cheapest. Bottom line is if you're on a budget get the f/1.8 and you won't ever regret it.

I have a 1.4 and love it... I use it for low light situations and for it's crispness/clarity; it's my first piece of fast glass

I could've sworn adorama didn't have these. BH and adorama are the only e-shops I browse.

I'll be damned. Guess who just purchased a 1.4. :big grin:

Now, is the 1.4 really worth 3x the price of the 1.8?

    That depends.

I've never used the 1.8 so I have no idea.

1.4 rocks. Mine is tack sharp wide open. I've had both and the 1.4 is sharper when using large apertures and has better contrast.
