Well im going to replace my macbook, its battery is getting close to shot and the cd drive is shot... not to mention its 2.5 years old now. Im not looking to spend over 1500, so im kinda looking at either a new Macbook or a last gen NEW mbp via clearence from apple store... both are ~1399 how i like them. Any real reason i shoudl not get the MBP, its a 2.4 vs. 2.1, has firewire, bigger screen.... etc.

    If you need FireWire, MBP.
If you want a bigger screen, MBP.

Can't really think of another reason to choose the MBP over the MB... I'm getting the MacBook :dunno: but i want something portable, and I already have a powerful desktop so I don't need a (as) powerful laptop

Hmm we'll see what the wife says, i may just jump and go for a new MBP. Id like FW800 but more importantly the 15inch screen. Kinda tired of the 13 on my old macbook.

might as well get an external monitor instead. you can get a 24" for less than the difference between pro and regular.

My mother-in-law just got a new MBP... I was getting a little bit sad about it since I'm not in a position to justify an upgrade, but I recently cleaned out my 17" 2.33ghz MBP (almost 2 years old, first group of core2duo models) and reinstalled leopard, and after using mine and using hers for awhile I really think the only situation in which I might benefit from the new model is if I was trying to run windows and play games. That's it. I can't imagine another reason that I'd need anything on the new MBP. My 2-year-old system is just fine. If you can get a great deal on a previous-gen MBP, just get one. Unless you're fucking IN LOVE with the black bezel / glass screen.

yeh I'm going to watch eBay for a food deal on the last gen mbp. This is ggoing to replace my desktop and current MB. I like the new ones but they are too pricey for the few advantages to me. Plus I need FireWire for some things I do frequently. Fw800 is the only real draw to the new mbp tho. But fw400 will do just fine.

STRONGLY considering going with a refurbished MBP. Shit's only $1349!

Anyone have any thoughts? Good or bad idea to buy refurb? Are the new graphics chips on the new MBP's THAT much of an improvement?

Do it. Mine should be in tomorrow! I got the same specs as the one you listed and there's a $100 rebate for select printers. The Canon Selphy(CP 760) I got will be free after the rebate.

This is my first Apple product btw, and i've always been a die hard PC user. Hopefully I like it.. :noes:

I got the new macbook instead of the pro.. I'm not a heavy user, and I have a 22" monitor to connect to at home so it works for me.

refurb should be fine, but honestly the 50 bucks extra for the new one is worth it.
