I am not deploying to Iraq anymore. In fact, I may be getting discharged from the Marine Corps.

I have the inherited form of a skin disease called Plantars Hyperkaratosis. It causes my feet to have a bunch of layers (about a quarter of an inch thick)of callus-looking fungus on the bottom of my feet. After extended periods of time of being on my feet, they start to split open all over the place and bleed. Then comes bruising.

Now I get to spend a few days on COC duty here in 29 Palms until they figure out when the non-deployables are going home.

No more money for me. No being a veteran. Just going back home to a job I hate.

Nope. The only reason that this makes me undeployable is because it is an inherited disease from my father. The inherited form of this disease is uncurable.

If I said that the military caused it, then it wouldn't be something they could discharge me for.

so is there anything you can do to prevent it from bleeding and bruising? like lotion or maybe scraping off the callus-type fungus? I'd be fighting it.

I can, just not here. The only way for the splits to heal is for me to stay off of my feet. I've tried many lotions and medications, but since it is uncurable, it does no good unless I can stay off of my feet.

When I am at home, I can make my feet look normal and you wouldn't even be able to tell I have it. It's just here in 29 Palms, it is 115 degrees, so the sweat always gets to it and makes it worse.

Sorry to sound like a dick (like I always do, but in real life i'm a nice guy, i assure you) but veterans are people who have deployed or served > 20 years.

Man that sucks, I wish you luck in whatever happens. I'm stuck out here in 29 Palms as a student for about 6 months so far, like you said it's hot as hell w/ no humidity out here.

    Good luck man.

you only need like 90 days of active duty to qualify for some, if not all benefits... if I remember correctly :noes:

When I am home and keep my feet dry and not on my feet all day, I can make my feet look almost 100% normal. I didn't realize it could get this bad until I joined the military.

    You will get full benefits

I was discharged at 23 months 19 days and I am at 30% and able to get vocational rehab.

You will be going through the MEB/PEB process, you can draw this out for MONTHS, like I would actually stay you can draw it out for 6-8 months at max.

You also have a chance to fight at the PEB

    Go here..

    http://p203.ezboard.com/bvetbenefits

MEB/PEB forum, those guys are the EXPERTS in regards in your rights, what you can do, how you can fight it, or not fight it, how to get the highest VA rating and DoD rating when you do get released.

If I don't see a post specifying exactly what is going on in the MEB/PEB forum, then I really don't think you want to stay in the Marines.

These guys are the EXPERTS at everything MEB/PEB on the internet, and those procedures or more or less DoD specific and not USMC/Army/Navy/USAF....
