Looking into getting an upper for one of my lowers. I'm gonna go 16" for this one and the SBR route for the later build. Anyway, I want a flip up front site rather than one that staked. Anyway, I know everyone shit talks larue here b/c arfcom licks their balls. But honestly, for the price of the Sniper upper setup they have, I don't think it's bad. It's $400 less than the LMT MRP uppers plus I don't have to buy a BCG like I do with the LMT. Any other recommendations for the $1200 price range on an upper? This is gonna be a plinking gun, but also will be used for small game like Coyotes and varmints.

  2. What's wrong with any other much less expensive upper? You mentioned varmints, do you want a heavier barrel that you'd usually find on a varminting rifle?

Larue makes excellent products, buy in confidence. I know mark larue is a dickhead owner, but forget about him when you buying larue stuff. :o

If you can find one, vltor vis is the way to go. Barrels...whatever you can find.

Not that you can get one, but for sbr, the special noveske/vltor 10.5" with 10.5" rail and pig break is about as sessy as money can buy.

lmt seems like an odd product to compare to price wise unless you need those features.

Larue is only 4 weeks out which is one of the major reasons I was looking at them. I'll check out Vltor. I was just gonna get a stag upper with the rail setup which is only $695, but I heard they are 8wks + out. I also need a lower parts kit, and I was told RRA is the best to go with. $70 is the price I'm seeing everywhere...is that the price the RRA kits go for, or can they be had cheaper elsewhere?

Varmints and stuff are gonna be 10% of the use of the rifle. Mostly range work is what I'm gonna do with it.

vltor will be hard to find, don't forget to check all the shops locally or even not so local (anyone can mail you an upper). My POS dealer in town has RRA lowers for over a grand, but still has a short Vltor VIS for same as internet prices :ugh:

Considering you're getting a one piece setup that allows you to swap barrels at the range in a minute or so for less than the cost of a cheap upper and rail. Not sure if the vltor is billet or not but it has the same feel/beefyness as my billet pof lower. It's all machined.

They make a 12" Stealth upper. if you're going to SBR it eventually, why not just wait and have them send it to you like that?
