My coworker's laptop (Dell Latitude D510) wont take incoming power from its power supply. I've tried another power cord, same thing. Tried original power cord on another laptop, and it works fine. So, the power cord is out.

How likely/possible is it that the actual power receptical on the laptop is dead?

If so, how would you go about fixing this? Would it even be practical to fix, or is it one of those things where fixing it costs so damn much you might as well buy a new one?

They can be fixed - but they'll replace the whole MB

Is it pricey? I'm just curious as to what to even suggest they do with the computer. Its their personal computer, so cost is more of a concern.

When you plug in the laptop and then remove its battery, does it stay on or shut off? If it stays on, the battery is shot; if it shuts off, then the receptacle is shot.

It shuts off when i do that. But... i've been pretty sure its the receptacle.

What do i suggest to them about it? Anyone have any ideas what it could cost to replace/fix?

Just out of curiosity, have you tried charging the laptop with multiple chargers AND multiple wall outlets?
