running flawlessly past year and a half but now its gotten rather noisy. sounds like something is whirring up then like 5 mins later slows down and makes creeking noises. :eek3: wtf any guesses as to what that is?

My guess is the hard drive, or possibly a fan... hope you have everything backed up...

    I'm convinced Toshibas are junk.

I've had mine in 3 times in the last 6 months (although one was due to the incompetence of the repair person).

Thankfully I still have another year and a half of warranty

Yeah my old boss has an older one and it was slow as hell but it still ran.

I've had the HD fail (which says more about Toshiba's choice in HD's), the modem fail, the pointer mouse fail twice. The USB port was left unplugged at one point during the pointer mouse fix.

I've purchased several newer models too and not had a lick of trouble.

Your warranty is probably a one year warranty (only their "professional" series are 3 year warranties). But their service centres are on the website and they'll repair it for you for $.
