got an acer aspire 3680 from a friend that will not power on. Apparently it just stopped recognizing the charger. I have tried another charger but it still doesn't work. My friend said he thinks a piece broke off, but I don't see anything. I'm guessing there's a bad connection between the dc jack and the motherboard, but is there a better way to test the jack? I have found a power board to replace it, but its $80 and would rather not spend the money if I don't need to.

You're lucky if you can replace the jack itself.

I've replaced the jack on my dell before & it was a pain, but I've found a power board that will be much easier than dealing with soldering the jack to the motherboard.

Yea, I had one of the robotics guys in our shop replace the power jack on one of our laptops.

To me, the motherboard was useless without a working jack, so it was worth the $10 to buy the jack and try it. The machine works fine now.

but my issue is, the jack for his computer is $80 and I don't see the point of spending $80 if its not the issue.
