I'm looking to buy a laptop and my primary concern is that is has a long battery life. It's for school and I'll need it to last throughout the day without a recharge. It'll only be used for word processing.

So far I've come up with:

Sony VAIO® TR3AP1 Notebook w/ large capacity battery and
    Panasonic ToughBook CFW2

I read that both have a battery life of ~6 hours. Does anyone know of other options? I'd like something cheaper because the two above are around $2K.

LG has a couple that will ge you almost 9 hours on the standard battery, and some acers will let you run 2 batteries for about 9 hours total as well(by removing the optical drive).

My experience is that the whole 6 hours is bullshit. Basically if you do no work whatsoever on the laptop, it will last for 6 hours. If you're using it, it will last 3 on one good battery.

my hp zt3000 will last about 3 1/2 hrs on a battery doing programming & development work

that's not running the wireless though, running wireless uses a lot more battery (even on a centrino)

but I agree w/ 5Gen, 6 hrs is BS unless you've just got it sitting there

definately NOT the Toshiba Tecra TE2100. I'll be lucky enough to get an hour of battery life on this thing. It's my work computer so I dont really care.
