    I have an old Dell Inspiron 8200. It looks like the backlight died on it. You can barely see anything on the screen. An external monitor works fine.

    Do you think it's the LCD inverter or the actual backlight lamp I should replace?

    Damn.. Anyone???

    I found a new screen for $99... I guess I could go that route.. This is a work machine, so it has to be fixed.

    fn + the up arrow

    May or may not work, but it's worth a shot.

    Your guess is pretty much on the spot. Save your self time and just purchase the $99.00 screen to replace everything instead of just the inverter.

    Yea, that's what I'm thinking, but the screen itself is good...

    Meh... Picked up a screen off Ebay for $100 shipped... Maybe I'll dig into the old one when I get it swapped out. Would be good for a backup.
