ok well i will try and explain this as best i can so hang with me. my laptop plug/powersupply thing might be broke. i think this because the 3rd prong, the round one broke off. is it still ok or should i replace it. what is its use.

you must replace it... The round (3rd) prong is "ground" and is a safety feature.

The round prong is the grounding prong. It'll still work without it but you should have it for safety.

If there's ever a short that brings the chasis into contact with the hot wire, you will become the path to ground and get a shock. If it were properly grounded, the ground wire would take the current. Grounds are for your safety.

Maybe not but they don't put the ground prong on there for shits and giggles. Plenty of people have died from defeating electrical safety systems.
