I have a sony vaio laptop with a p4 2.8ghz chip. I took the chip out trying to clean the fan and when i put it back in the pins bent a bit. I managed to put everything back into place but its not working.

Does anyone know if i brought it to a computer store would they be able to even fix it or find me that chip still?

If every pin is in place like you say, then yeah like Codex said, the cpu might have been damaged.

But make sure there's nothing less obvious that you might be missing like not having plugged the cpu power plug back in.

You could also try to clear the cmos, just to be safe.

The computer isnt turning on at all. Would it still turn on if the cpu wasnt inside?

make sure you double check all your other connections

usually if the cpu is damaged or missing, the computer won't turn on at all.

Yes, it will still turn on if the CPU is dead. Something's fux0red with your A/C adapter or your battery or your internal power supply.

I've straightened out quite a few bent pins in my day, and most of them were just ground lines. :dunno:
