At least double the RAM. 256MB isn't very much for XP. See if you can throw in another 512MB module for 768MB total. If you want to see how your XP machine would run with Win2000 on it, just turn off the XP eye candy. Right click My Computer and hit properties. Go to the advanced tab, performance settings button. Under visual effects, set it to "performance'. Windows 2000 and XP are pretty much the same OS except that XP defaults to having a lot of GUI intensive crap running.

I'm running XP on a PII 400MHz machine now with integrated 4MB GFx and 384MB PC100.

Simply disabling all the XP flashy graphics and turning off alot of unnecessary services and such...it runs pretty smooth. I would imagine your Celery 1.3GHz would be just fine with more RAM.

Agreed. With the eye-candy disabled, Windows XP performs the same, if not slightly better, than 2000.

I also recommend you disable System Restore.
