Hey guys my laptop just broke after 5 years, I had a dell. I'm a college student, 19 years old, use my computer quite often. I'm looking to buy a new one but I'm not sure if I should go laptop or a desktop. I do like to bring my comp around with me quite a bit but I think I could live without doing that. I do enjoy gaming, but I've moved more onto consoles, but I would like to have the option if I ever wanted to. My budget is about 800 I could go a bit more, and less is always great haha. Reccomend me a laptop or desktop??

Well, do you like to bring your laptop to class and take notes or whatnot? Personally, I think the laptop is the best way to go for a college student (myself being one). But of course your going to spend more for a laptop vs. the exact same specs on a desktop.

This is what I've been thinking about... I got the Desktop but I want a notebook for note-taking. I don't want a full-featured one though cuz I already got a nice desktop

Though it would be nice to see the Eee or the other micro notebooks that are in the works from Acer and ECS have a PCMIA slot for cell phone network cards so you are not constrained by WiFi

For light pc gaming and usefulness for a college student, go laptop. Its just more convenient to take and store. Plus since you already had a laptop it wont be any different from the norm except it will be new.

As for suggestions on laptops under $800 i would suggest this one. Yes its an HP but a buddy of mine has it and he loves it. Plays HD movies flawlessly (has a lot of video memory), runs most games on ok settings, and has pretty good battery life. Plus since its a 15.4 inch screen its fairly small and portable so you can carry it in a backpack easily and take it to class. If you dont want to buy it online (ie instant gratification needed), Best Buy has nearly the exact same laptop in store for just a touch more (same proc and video card, different hard drive and slightly bigger screen).

BTW I'm at University. For my course I pretty much must have a desktop for Pro Engineer and other apps.

I take my Eee PC to lectures and it works so well.

    Electronic notes >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Paper.

meh, you can't take notes on a laptop for a math/econ course with graphs lol

OP, i'd still reaaaaaally recommend that dell vostro if the discount is still there. beeeeeest price you can get for a c2d + any customization you'd like. (if you throw in MS office, the discount should apply to that too, i think)
