Both of my slots had 256mb sticks. I just replaced each of them with 512 sticks. My laptop is still showing up as only having 512 in windows. What could be the issue?

I always get laptop memory at Crucial.com using their memory selector. I've had too many laptops reject good memory because it wasn't the exact right kind. Crucial says it'll take two 512's so either:

    1) one is bad
    2) one's not seated
    3) its not the right memory
