I may be aquiring a Sony Vaio PCG-9B3L laptop from someone. The laptop will not power up when plugged in, nor off the battery.

I would assume the power supply is bad.. any thoughts on what to check for?

lol...could just be disconnected form the inside of the laptop, that would be nice:) but yes, most likely bad/blown power supply. maybe just a short in the connections which would also be nice.

unfortunately if you can't even turn it on, there might be 1000 more problems with it. LCD might not work, stuff migth be fried...unless he's checked everything in a seperate laptop(unlikely). So jsut don't pay too much for it.

How hard do you think to find a replacement power supply for this laptop? Few years old... 1GHz machine.

hmm...eBay maybe. manufacturers usually dont keep making replacement parts for stuff after its been out for a while. if its only say 3yrs. old then it might not be too hard, since some products have 3-yr. warranties the manufactueres have to have ample amount of supplies to last 3yrs. but anymore than that i am not sure how hard it would be.

If I were you I would look for a local store that specializes in corp. recycling. They always have older randoms.

A lot of companies use the same power supply for years - you might get lucky.

Is this one with a built in powersupply or with a external powersupply?
