Got a laptop that doesn't charge when it's plugged in. I've tried another charger and it still doesn't charge. What can I do to fix this?

    sony, toshiba, or dell?

    Very common with all three.

You can sometimes repair (requires disassembly and soldering skills)

    Otherwise, needs new mainboard.

yea, some leet soldering skills can usually fix them(depending on the motherboard). Otherwise a new mobo will take care of it, which probably will run you upwards of 700 from dell.

That's what I was gonna say. A bad battery is the most common reason for charges not holding.

There is a difference between a battery getting a charge and holding a charge. Which is it?

No there isn't. If the battery is shorted internally, it will neither get nor hold a charge.

when a battery dies it is commonly because it has become internally shorted. The seperating materials that seperate indivdiual cells has deteriorated and the cells have shorted together.
