    I'm pretty sure Lenovo's got a rebate on some models atm (mail in), plus through my distributor I was able to get a pretty decent price.
    (approx 1200 CA)

    for me it was price vs features. I was sold on getting the Mac, until i copared price vs features. In the end I'd rather keep the extra cash in my pocket...

    They're damn bulletproof, and if you have to get service done, Lenovo will mail you a box to ship the thing in along with a next-day shipment tag to send it off.

    It probably will be a tank. It's a bad sign when the keyboard doesn't go all the way to the side edges of the case. Then again, if you wanted power, you're going to get it.

    I'm waiting for Intel's new Terahertz CPU. I hear it's only 15 years away; buying now would be a fucking waste of money.

    Be careful. Fedora/Linux != Windows

    They are very different operating systems and unless you want to learn a whole new technology, you should avoid this idea.

    Having said that, I just installed FC5 on a spare machine and I must give kudos to RedHat. They have really improved their distro from RedHat 8, which was my last install.

    Sorry for the thread hijack....

    Are you comfortable using Microsoft Windows?? Do you have applications that you have previously used MS Windows with?? Does your employer used MS Windows and/or Office??

    Then unless you want to learn something completly different, stick with what you know. MS Windows.

    Well I'm certainly a fan of Linux and I have a machine with Fedora installed on it but it's purly for learning purposes. I do all my important work on my Windows machine because I'm too new to Linux and screwing things up is kinda how you learn it. :)

    If you want to try it, you can download Knopix or something like that and burn it to a CD. That's a version of Linux that boots from a CD but doesn't mess with your install of Windows. Then you could at least see the difference. Windows and Linux systems are very, very different.

    Anyway I know this doesn't fit into the nit-picking but nice gig on the purchase. You could use 512 more but 512 is good to work with right now.

    Fedora core is a bad distro for almost all applications.
