I just got an older (2 years or so) Dell laptop for work. I will be traveling to China this Saturday. I'd like to watch DVDs on the laptop, it has a CDRW/DVD drive and it plays cd's mp3's fine, but when i play a dvd, i have no audio...

i'll try to get the IT guys to figure it out, but they usually take 3 days to get back to me.. plus they'll be like, that's not a business purpose.

    what could be the problem?

having multiple volume controllers can do that. what software are you using to play the dvd? look to see if it has it's own volume control or try installing a different dvd player like bsplayer

Yea, check out the sound app in control panel. Maybe it uses a different source for DVD sound and it may be muted.
