My girlfriend's laptop's display stopped working correctly today, it's an HP VZ5000. Everything is super dim and the display flickers a lot, but we can't make it brighter and restarting doesn't help. If we hook my monitor up to it it displays things on the monitor just fine, but not the screen on the laptop.

    Any ideas?

    typical HP quality.

Call HP, it sounds like hardware failure.

    sounds like a damaged cold-cathode.

call hp. Be prepared to argue that you didn't abuse it.

backlight, inverter, power cable for inverter......take your pick. easiest and cheapest would be the cable....followed by the inverter....then of course the LCD (backlight and LCD is not separate).

Whatever you do, DO NOT open anything yourself.
