I'm looking to get a new one. Mine is pretty beat out of shape, and cannot handle much, heh.

I hear good words about the new Toshibas, I also hear good things about the Thinkpads, but on that thought--I know people who've owned them and are not happy.

Looking for one that is affordable. I would say two grand max, but I'm REALLY looking for something along the lines of $1500, less if possible.

    Opinions?

I bought a Compaq Presario about a month ago, and so far I'm satisfied with it. I haven't encountered any problems thus far. Of course, I did get rid of the bundled Compaq crap right after I bought it. It came with a full version of XP Pro, which was cool.

The price was fair. I ended up paying approximately $1350 after tax, and that's excluding the rebates.

I have a Compaq Presario also I got off a friend he used for ~1 year. Works great, I have no complaints about it. I got it for $600. Stay away from HP laptops, I had problems with the 1 I owned, and I have had a few friends who have had problems with theirs too. Toshiba's are good I hear, e-machines also I hear is pretty good.

I would also go with an Apple. It'd be an iBook in your price range, My girlfriend's dad has one of those 12-inch ones, and it's really awesome, I'd love to have one.

Go for the powerbook (or an iBook). Top-notch laptops.

:werd: Their good laptops, but I'm heading over towards the PC side instead of Mac. It will be my development machine and also a machine to keep my work mobile. OSX is running FreeBSD, but it is still a Mac. I'm still uncomfortable developing under that OS.

Also, I would like my machine to be able to run Resources whores like Oracle9i (Which could barely run on my laptop). And also would like to be able to play games when I'm bored. :p

Will be carrying it around everywhere I go. So light/thin. I have a Compaq Presario right now, and it's goddamn huge. It's like 3 inches thick, 15 inch screen, heavy as hell; and slow as shit. :p

Would like something lighter, and smaller.

i have an ibm t23. its about 6 lbs or so. 1 ghz 512 mb ram 20 gb hd, 14' screen...
    its mobile, stable and quality.
plays max payne, unreal tournament and return to castle wolfenstein well. all are pretty graphics/memory intensive.

ibm sells new older units on ebay with warranty and such.
ive had nothing but success with mine. good luck with yours.

mac has games, though they take some time to come out, and there isnt a wide selection
