    I bought the Acer(haven't opened yet, can return) but only thing that has me hesitant is the battery life. Which is 3hrs Mfr suggested. Compared to 4-5 for the Viao and Dell

    Dell Studio Laptop Intel Pentium Processor

    I like the look of the vaio the most.. but you could get a dell studio from the dell outlet for that much, and it would be a better computer than any of those

    Acer = 15.6"
    Sony = 15.4"
    Dell = 14"

    this alone makes me pick the dell

    dude,.. all the ones posted (except the Acer) are pretty much identical

    the reason i picked the dell is that its lighter, smaller, and is NOT weaker by any means compared to the others.

    the difference between the 14" and the 15" is not that much, but for my lazy ass,... i'd take the one that is easier to lug around.

    also,... a quick scan tells me that the only advantage of the VAIO and the Asus (over the 14" Dell) is Wireless N and DL DVD burners.
    meh.

    does it have to be with bestbuy?

    I just built a Inspiron 15 from dell.com
    with a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T6500 (2.10GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
    3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz
    160GB HD
    Intel graphics 4500HD
    Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1 32 Bit Windows 7 Upgrade Eligible [add $30](do you think its worth getting this upgrade? Or would I be better off upgrading for a 9cell battery($45))

    Total $479

    This beat a dell I saw at BestBuy tonight for $499 (T4200 Pentium)that I really liked.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9352746&type=product&id=1218089774785

    Coming home I was going to decide between the Viao and Dell, I didn't like the Asus much.

    the Studio is way better than the Inspiron, and I posted several under your $550 figure.

    You definitely want to upgrade to Vista Home Premium, and not only because it includes a free upgrade to Windows7 Premium in a few months (even if you preorder Windows7 Premium right now at half price, it costs $50). Premium is better all around.

    $45 for a battery upgrade is a good deal, too, though, and if you're ever gonna be mobile, you'll appreciate the extra battery life. if you're really hung up on getting an Inspiron at retail instead of shopping at the Outlet, you should do both of those upgrades.

    I didn't post any scratch any dents. I know several people that have ordered Certified Refurbs without a problem. I'm using a Certified Refurb Dell Studio Hybrid right now

    and all but the first one that I posted are Previous Ordered New.. not Refurbs.
