I have a laptop, and when I turn it on, the bios startup screen shows up, then the screen goes blank, but then nothing happens... seems like if there was a problem with the HD it would flip out and display something...but nothing, what should I try?

Sounds like Windows is hanging during bootup. Try repairing it from the Install CD.

Or any bootable CD for that matter - make sure that it's not hanging in the POST process.

Good point, but if he's got the Windows Install CD, he can kill two birds with one stone.
