Is it normal to have to replace a batter after a year of use? My battery went from having a initial 6 hours on a full charge to about 30 mins... Should I tell Dell to give me a new one or should I wish that I am goatse to avoid the painful ass raping for a new battery?

If you use your battery a lot, then yes that is common. I always leave my laptop plugged in except when absolutely neccessary to run on battery.

Using them will reduce their capacity... You generally get about 300-400 cycles out of a battery before capacity is signifigantly reduced... So if you use it daily on battery power, then that would make sense.

My Dell battery crapped out after about a year. Well it didn't really crap out, but I started getting the errors saying the battery is nearing its end of life. I called Dell and had them send me a new battery free (under warranty)... You'll have to return the old one though.
