My laptop will not run off battery power only. It runs perfect (on it posting now) while using the ac adapter but if i unplug it from the a/c adapter it turns off, like it has no power at all. Anyone have any suggestions?

What type of laptop do you have? Make sure it is in properly.

a little more info would help..

if it's a new battery it has to be charged before use (about 10-12 hours).

if you removed it from your laptop and haven't used it for a while, it may just need to go through 2-3 charge/discharge cycles (fully drain and fully charge 2-3 times).

    Is this battery old?

When I first bought my laptop two years ago, the battery easily ran for three hours no problem.

Now, because it's two years old, I average about 38 minutes at the best. Over time, batteries simply wear out and are unable to hold a charge. My battery will continue to slowly get worse and worse untill it won't even hold any power.
