Does linux really have poor management for laptops when it comes to power savings? I was looking at the eeepc website and they xp claims to have an extra hour worth of life.

I hope that's the case, since I want to make the switch over to linux on the laptop, but just worried about the power management tools

I just ordered an EeePc 1000H two days ago and am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. Just wondering why you want to switch to Linux from XP?

I got at least an extra hour with Linux on my HP dv2000t over XP.

Had Gentoo at one point and Debian at another. I saw more life out of the Gentoo install after doing all the power management tweeks.

A little goes a long way in a machine with no moving parts.

And the one you said "wow!" to was a 901, which (usually) comes with an SSD.
