I've had my dell laptop for about a 1 1/2yrs. Is there a way to test the battery on its condition? I run it on battery power alot but it just doesn't seem to last as long anymore. When I use the battery meter on the battery itself it shows a full charge. I would say it has had at least 500 charges and discharges during its life. about how long are they good for?

normally not too long... if you dont use it much at all 6-8 months is what ive heard/seen... the laptop i got off a friend is a little over a year old, and the battery still works great. (compaq presario 700)

most companies rate their batteries good for 3 years, but they usually don't last that long.

if your laptop is still under warranty try getting them to send you a new battery. just say yours doesn't hold a charge. they'll usually send you a new one first and then you put your old one in the box and send it back.
