What are you going to use it for? I have a 3 lb 12" wide screen Sony laptop. Its great for what I need it to do because its so small and portable. But its not a machine I'd want to spend all day on because its so small.

Asus makes some really nice small laptops. If you feel like killing animals and wasting their bodies on decorating a piece of metal that will be obsolete in a couple of years, you can even get Asus lappies with leather covers and wristpads.

Why so small then? A small laptop is going to have a small screen and a pretty cramped keyboard too. Its not the kind of machine I'd want to spend a lot of time working on. I think a thin and light 13-14" machine would more enjoyable.

Im gonna go pick up an IBM X31 after work today. 1.6ghz, 512mb ram, wireless, bluetooth (bought parts for close to $70), 1 year warranty left.

FYI, www.booqbags.com has some closeout prices on some of their sleeves. I bought two Vyper XS sleeves for $20 shipped.

1.8" hdd ftmfl. I was looking to get a tablet but im gonna wait until the X61 prices go down instead.

There's a guy selling HP TC4200 tablets for under $1000 shipped. Brand new with 3 year warranty. Something like 2ghz and 2gb ram included.

Vista is a joke. I remember win95 was the shiznit when it came out. NT4 was a uber1337. win2k was a godsend. winxp was the new hotness.

    vista is crap.

I have an TC4200 for work/personal use (as in I bought it and use it for work as well). It keeps my contacts, cues form data for upload while I'm in the field, allows me to create contracts on-site, etc.

I'm not accurate enough at input yet to keep up with staff meeting notes so they get stored as flat images, manually translated later...no worse than paper.

Once I got it converted to XP OS I'm running an Access DB app and EVE without issue.

I'd highly recommend the TC4200 for someone who can benefit from the mobility of a tablet and doesn't need a ton of computing power on the go. Mine has already replaced my laptop and my PDA. It will soon replace my iPod.
