I'm looking at getting a mid-90s Discovery... I hear that these are unreliable, but what does this mean? Electrical? Mechanical?

I dont have a huge amount of knowledge Discovery wise, my parents have always owned Defenders.

But in general, it'll probably require more maintenance than any equivalent vehicle from a Japanese manufacturer. All part of the "ownership experience" though :big grin:

why do you want a discovery? If you want something utilitarian, you're better off with a 4runner or land-cruiser. If you want it for the "status" then I can't help ya.

A friend of mine had a 1995 Range. He put more money into it than he bought it for after 7 years.

ya stay away. I have also considered one and in all honesty they are not worth it.

Buy a Jeep. It's a truck/SUV instead of a Car/SUV and they run well for a long time.

    IMHO
