I rented a 100-400 f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM lens from lensrentals.com for a week since the Detroit Grand Prix's going to be taking place this weekend. I came home from work and it was here waiting for me. :noes:

I've only taken pictures around my room, seeing how detailed it gets at 400mm and what not. Fucking nuts. I gotta get me one of these. It's the first L-glass anything I've played with and I'm nutting in my pants over it.

And to think it's not even that nice a lens, as L glass goes. :mamoru:

Shiiit. My only comparable lens is the 18-55 kit lens, and that's not comparable.

Anyone know what the L stands for, if anything? Shouldn't they have called it G for God?

Of all the L lenses, the 100-400 is the one I hate the most

    I sneeze in my pants over the 200 1.8, 300 2.8, 400 2.8, and.... the 35 1.4.

meh, its useful. the 14L is way the fuck overpriced considering the tamron 14 2.8 is just as good.

the 85L isn't as good overall as its little brother the 1.8

The 24-70 has about the worst QC standards you can imagine

35-350/28-300 are both monsters with mediocre results

the non L but white 400 DO is more than a 300 2.8 + extender (by quite a bit) and gets worse results

i like it, but the QC is awful, so getting a good copy and the almost justifible measurebating over it ruins the joy of it for me

I just went through 3 24-70Ls from canon last week, all were gravy...

Think I've used 6 different ones so far, no problems?

I'd love to get a 35-350 or a 28-300, slap it on a 1Ds and call it a day :hs:

My 85L beats the pants off any 85 1.8 I've ever used at all apertures especially 2.8 and below. The color and contrast even at 1.2 are simply superb.

not from the ones I've used :o
plus AF speed isn't even close. the L is great, but eh 1.8 is one of the best lenses for the money in the entire lineup

I will admit, the 85L (Even the II) sucks at focusing. I won't even attempt to shoot indoor sports with it this fall (well, I may attemept for fun, but I'm not getting my hopes up).

Not to say that the focus isn't accurate, it just has a lot of glass to move and the focusing ring covers at least 180 degrees of the barrel, probably more. Deff a lens designed to be manually focused often.

But the IQ and ability to shoot at 1.2...
