I'm not a camera wiz so be kind. My DC290 will no longer stay on, it will briefly flash the LED on the back, but the lens will not extract, and I get an E11 error message on the display screen. I went through the troubleshooting guide on Kodak's website and they say it needs to be returned for service. I can either return it and pay $125 if it's a minor repair, or $175 if it turns out to be a major repair. Or, I can pay $150 and get a refurbished DX7440 with one year warranty. Has anyone had an experience like this? Does this sound like a major or minor repair? Is is a good deal to go for the DX7440? The DC290 has served me well and has paid for itself over the years. Should I just cut my losses and get a new camera altogether? Any suggestions on a new camera? I'm not shooting lightning or anything, so I don't need a lot of bells and whistles. Any advice is appreciated. Here are pics for reference.

Throw that camera away and get a decent P&S.
    LIke a Canon Axx series.
Stay away from Kodak. They suck. You might not see it, beca8se Kodak's the only thing you've ever been exposed to, but trust me, they suck.

I had an identical lens problem w/my Kodak LS443. I called Kodak and the woman on the phone said it's unrepairable (WTF, only 2 years old). So, she said send it in and upgrade it to a DX7630 for $125. I did and the camera is great (has manual control and it's a 6MP).

Oh...I forgot to add that I ordered a wide angle lens from them at the same time and they never charged me for it.

Circuit City has a Canon PowerShot A410 on sale for $140, I might check that out

Try looking around on the Internet.
You'll probably find shit cheaper than in offline stores.

Damn, you must've gotten some mileage out of that if you got it new at the time. :o

My first digcam was a dc265...like back in 1999 or something, all 1.3mp worth :mamoru:
