I might have to travel via amtrak this summer their policy states no guns or knives in checked bags. Can you carry a small pocket knife on your person?

Is it against their policy, or against some law? If it's just Amtrak policy, I wouldn't hesitate to CCW on the train - especially if it's anything like traveling via Greyhound bus, which is a Who's Who of Mental Illness, IMO.

Done it a million times. Also on Greyhound. Don't be a dumbass and flash it around and it won't be a problem.

Actually the only time I had an issue was when I was riding the greyhound and we stopped outside of salt lake at a station. They were checking bags. I just put my leatherman and knife in my medical bag and told them I was an EMT and they didn't even open it.

Never had anything happen like that on amtrak though.

How would they ever know? They don't even xray checked baggage, let alone do metal detectors before you board. At least the last time I rode.

pretty sure this is accurate, so who cares, just keep it concealed. i'd take something better than a knife

Can't keep the firearm secured properly (Kids, rental house) where I am going and I can't keep it on me 24*7 because NC does not allow firearms where alcohol is sold.

Take a lockbox with you. They have the small ones with the cable attached.. you can secure it around a bed post or something.
