I know absolutely nothing about knives. In fact I hate using knives period. However I'm looking to get one as a backup/SHTF weapon. I have the following requirements:

    1. Needs to have a clip
    2. Assisted opening is preferred (the faster I can get the blade out the better)
    3. I have smaller hands (S/M sized gloves) so I would want something on the smaller side.
    4. Don't want to spend too much. $75 is my limit, and of course, the cheaper the better. I'm not looking for some behind the glass showpiece. I just want something that works well and is decent quality.

Is that belt cutting edge on the trident? How much, and where's the best place to get one?

  6. I've only had mine a few weeks. I have a friend that has a Trident and he's used countless times over the last few years to cut, pry, and saw at things. He's only had to have it sharpened once, and the factory did it for free.

I feel like I'm channeling SMN here but have you had any classes on how to use a knife? It seems like if you intend to use one as a weapon it would be good, and it seems like having some training would lead you down the path to knowing at least something about what you want/prefer.

It looks like it does. But more importantly, it looks like the clip is the right direction so the blade is pointing up. It's a real pain in the ass to pull the knife, flip it around then open it.

  9. There is a clip and does point the blade up. :)

Like I said earlier, I hate knives. As much as I would like to be more comfortable and familiar with knives, there are a lot more classes that have priority right now. I guess I can describe what I intend on using it for and maybe you guys can help me out.

I plan on carrying one clipped to the front of my vest, and only intend to use it if I can't get to my duty weapon and the perp is on top of me with a weapon of his own. In that scenario, I plan on accessing the knife and stabbing into his vitals and getting him off of me. Basically a last ditch weapon.

SOG does make some great knives, I have a Flash II that's been great. It isn't a particularly small knife though so for everyday carry I still choose my CRKT M16. Keep in mind I only really use my knife as a tool, for a weapon the SOG would probably be a better choice.

While those look cool they aren't very sturdy IMO.

Benchmade FTW - Mini-Griptilian or Griptilian

Anyone know if they are duping the above knives (Griptillian/Trident) in S30v?

I like the looks of the Trident (and the Grips are well loved around here), but would love to have one in S30v.

I picked up an SOG Flash II and love it. caught the damn clip though and bent it out a little bit.

The midway price is actually pretty good.

I do like the glass-break feature on the SOG and Microtech.

  19. I was gonna drive over to their factory and buy one of their seconds, but the Midway price was even better.

I could get them to ya for maybe a hair less, but not worth it really!

  21. Shit, if I had known you could have gotten them, I'd have bought it from you. :hs:

Kershaw Ken Onion assisted folders, had this one since 05 and use it daily, never once has come loose, or had any problems whatsoever.
