I'm looking around for a basic knife which is foldable, hence pocketable and portable. i see a lot of people at least have the benchmade 530. i was wondering what makes them or benchmade good in general? any opinions on knife buying would be appreciated.

Like guns, there are a million different options that will be subjective to each individual owner. If you could narrow it down by size, price range, features you want, brand name reputation or something, you might get a better idea of what you're looking at.

I have a 530SBK and it's not a bad little knife.. insanely light, fits in pocket, assisted opening, but it's a little more flexible than I like in a potential fighting knife.

Is the 530 the same thing as the 530SBK? I was thinking something under the 100 price range, something like the 530. The 530 catches my eye, just wondering about opinions on other knives in that category and how strong the blade is compared to say a tactical knife.

The best thing you can do is go out and look for a knife that says "Ak74" on it or "M16". I mean if the guns are cool/good then the knife should be too. :noes:

Tactical knife is like assault rifle.. the term is intentionally misleading. The 530 is a small, lightweight folder for everyday use. It's not going to stand up to much hard use in the field, or any sort of real torsion on it. You're probably not going to ever torque it that hard, so whether that means anything to you or not is up to you.

I've got a kershaw and I love it.

    Just my .02 cents.

Buying a knife depends on what you need it for. Daily carry? Opening boxes? Hunting? Defense?
Also, find a price range and stick to it.

I would give the 530 a thumbs up I own the SBK(black powder coat) version, and it's a light handy little knife.

mostly opening box type work, probably need a strong enough knife to be able to take some wear though.
