Ive had knee injuries before but usually it was to the side or a ligament or tendon. So a normal brace would work and if I needed some extra support I would use a hand wrap. The issue with this knee injury is it was on the knee cap. My doctor gave me the go ahead but when I roll my knee swells up a little bit and gets uncomfortable.

I was wondering if any one had a similar injury and could recomend a knee pad more then a brace that would work good for me.

Im going to call my doctor tomorrow and see if he can forward me to a specialist. When I went to the emergency room they set me up with a specialist but he wasnt covered by my insurance and on top of that I have to go through my primary care guy. I went to him and he told me to take a week off and I would be fine.

Now im demanding to go to a specialist.

I wear volleyball kneebraces. Best investment i ever made. It does rub up and down on your skin so sometimes i wear it over my gi pants. I look like an idiot but id rather that than the alternative

yeah i used to play a lot of volleyball in highschool even though im short, so that shit does work.

Give it a go, try a few out in the store and go with whatever gives you the most support or what your comfortable with, that is the most important thing cause otherwise you won't wear it.

Like i said before you will get rashes if you wear it inside your gi pants cause it will slide up and down on your knee and you might even spend some time readjusting it. Or you can do what i do and put it on the outside of your gi pants and not get the rashes. But if you put it on the outside of your gi pants it sometimes gets tangled up and shit and moves around a lot.

Its just trial and error until you find one that suits ya. the first one i brought cost me 50 bucks(au) and i hated it, now i use a 20 dollar one and it works fine.

This is what I use on both knees:

They give me really good support, and the pads aren't bulky at all. I can wear them comfortably under my gi pants with no problems.

i wear a donjoy at work, but no way you couold use that at training, but at least they wouldn't be able to lock your knee. could you just use tensor bandages?
