How hard are they to put together? Is it some specialized knowledge or can anyone who is halfway compotent with a good set of instructions pull it off? I want something to occupy the month I have off for Christmas break and I'm thinking about building a rifle if it's not overly complicated :dunno:

i just started and I thought it would be fun. Its really just a money pit!

You need tools which appear to be common to kit builders but not to everyone else. Also there isnt much labor to do that you can do your self without a mill.

All in all the collecting the parts is fun, but its sure as shit not as cheap as i thought nor as time consuming. This gun can be finished in 1-2 hours (1919a4)

well, by kit do you mean an AR, or something more complex like an AK (more complex to put together) or something even worse, that involves welding :hsugh:

I still have my AK kit sitting around all de-milled. Still waiting on my reciever. I ordered it about a month ago and no word.

if it is just an AKM stamped receiver you need, get an NDS.

or are you waiting on a milled?

I'm thinking about putting together either FALs, G3s/HK91s, or ARs together and then selling them. please rank the difficulty from easy to holy shit.

I want to build an AK or an AR target rifle.

What kind of special tools are we talking about here? I'm guessing a small bench vice is a necessity, but what else.? How much uch do you think it would cost overall, from buying all the materials for the gun and all the tools because I don't have anything. Any guesses? If it's $$$ I'll probably just buy myself an AK or M1 for Christmas.

AR's are the easiest to build. Link didnt work for me so I dont know the cost of that particular rifle. Tools nothing uncommon really needed, pliars, punch set, wrench for barrel and stock helps to have but can manage with out if your resourceful. You can build a basic rifle for about $600ish

Yeah that link sucked so I edited the post, I couldn't get the picture I liked from the ar-15 forums to hotlink :dunno:

    What about this?

    http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976649162.htm

I think the receiver is shown, it doesn't say it is not included, but I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to be looking for in the picture. I'm not going to get it, but I just want to know what to look for when I look for kits online to make sure I get everything.

FAL kit doesnt include the reciever. Not sure what that particular kit is worth I know FAL kits start at $199 and up. No experience building them looked into a bit and they dont seem all that difficult to do, more involved then an AR build though.
