So, i'm a little late to teh Half Life 2 bandwagon, but can someone explain to me why its so critically acclaimed?

If this is one of the better games out there, I think i just can't get into them anymore :hs:

Its good, for sure, but i'm only playing it because i have nothing else to do, not because i thinks its such a great game :hsd:

To be honest if I'd have only just played hl2 now I'd probably think the same but at the time of its release it was better than anything out and really took the whole real physics concept to a new level.

You're about 5 years too late. That's why you're disappointed.

Yeah, chalk up a lot of it to the game being 5 years old. At the time, it was pretty revolutionary. The gameplay and art direction were second to none, and the AI and facial animations were the best out at that time.

If I had to go back and play HL1 or HL2 today, I would choose 1. I think it's mostly due to nostalgia, though.

Although the first time I played HL1 I was mesmerized. Literally, the best single player experience ever for me. HL2 did not have that effect.

I liked the HL1 story better, HL2 was sort of a clusterfuck and the first time I played it i had no idea what was going on sometimes. The idea of some top secret research facility going wrong is fairly simple and straightforward but awesome.

HL2 blew my mind at the time as well. The gravity gun was fucking :eek4:

The Source engine was (and still is) a pretty amazing piece of technology. At the time it came out it was just awesome to see all of the different types of stuff with physics that you could do in the game because there had really been nothing like it. But I can see how if you are just getting into it now its not going to seem as great.

There are some pretty :eek3: moments in episodes 1 and 2 though

The end or HL2 Episode 2 is still likely the most enjoyable part of any game I have ever played. Shit is intense!
