I'm a noob...I want to get the Kimber Desert Warrior pistol. My friend said Kimbers are among the worst. He said "don't get a Kimber, they suck." How true is this?

Kimber is good stuff. They stand behind their product, so if there are any problems, they're going to take care of it.

I love my brother's kimber. One of the most accurate handguns I've ever fired.

Kimber had issues for awhile and they seem to be sorted out.

No problems at all with my ultracarry.

It may fuckup a few times in the first 500 rounds, but thats just because its built to tight specs

the older series 1 kimbers were regarded as better than the series II's for the build quality and reliability. I heard this when kimber was still making external extractor models....they went back to the original design lately and i have yet to hold or shoot a new production kimber so i wont knock nor praise them. I had a Kimber series I custom target that i sold several months ago. It was nice but the finish was weak.

The Warrior is supposed to be nice. I have only handled and dry fired one, no range time with one. But they are built on a Series 70 platform and are GTG.

For the record, I would not carry a Kimber Series II.

Ask this friend where they got their information. As far as 1911's go, Kimber is considered by many people to be among the best production examples you can get. Their fit and finish and overall quality and performance is a step above all but a specially crafted custom pistol.

For the sake of simplicity and reliability, I would suggest earlier models without the external extractor.

What does your friend have, or what is he comparing a Kimber to? Just kinda wondering what he thinks is "Good".

..........and for him to say Kimbers "suck" and "among the worst", he either doesn't know a whole lot about guns, or is 1 sided and had a really bad experience with one.

He's right. The grip safety is set up for failure. You either gotta pin that shit or get a Series I

I guess it's not that I hate Kimbers or anything. For the most part they are built pretty well. But I just want to let you know that there is potential for a very serious problem.

Thanks for the great responses! I can definitely make a more educated decision on what to get now...
I really had my heart set on getting the Kimber Desert Warrior. Are there any other suggestions you can offer a noob looking for a good .45?

If you really had your heart set on it then just get it, more than likely you won't have any problems with it.
