didn't his sister get kidnapped almost immediately before one of his fights, which started the downward spiral?

Kidnapping of Family members of sporting stars is quite common in Brazil this one sounds like a bit of a fuckup its usually just a money grab most of the time its a reasonably small ammount and the ransom is paid and all is well again.

Apparently she was kidnapped because she had a $9000 debt to some drug gangsters. The woman that confessed said she was going to die anyways regardless of whether the ransom was paid of not because she saw the face of the kidnappers. Losing your life over such a small sum of money is :wtc:

i dont think he did after his first big leave of absence. He used to be great and have great potential a bjj black belt that could bang. Then he went out and try to do all of these different things I think he was on a soap oppera for awhile in brazil. when he came back from that hiatus you know he never got his game back up.

I think that he falls into that category of fighters that got left behind. Ken shamrock and some others being some of them. When the UFC and the general talent pool in mma started getting better these guys had to evolve their game to suit the needs but they didnt so they got left behind. Unfortunately vitor is one of those guys and frank mir is also one of those guys
