This is on the tailgate of my 04 Ram that I bought in August.
I know I need to have it repainted.
For now, I'm going to use the Duplicolor touchup pen, once it warms up enough around here, to cover it up.

Sucks that you can't have nice things. :sad2:

  3. I've never understood why someone would just a single panel.

If your gonna do it to someone (not that I would or suggest to) but key all the panels, do a design on it or two, and scribble in "jack ass" or something. Atleast then you know someone really hated you and you could make an insurance claim on the car then.

But a sinlge panel makes no sense.

Maybe you pissed someone off, maybe they are jealous because they have never had anything that is worth a damn and hate you for it. Either way, that sucks. There are a lot of assholes. I have seen a lot of nice cars get keyed.

My wife drives it 99% of the time. She's the mature driver between the two of us. :o
Of course my first reaction was to blame it on her for where she parks. I know it's not her fault, though.

She explained to me how she spends winters in Northern New England (Mass, VT). She got stuck in a state of emergency (Snow Storm) and if she didn't move her car they'd tow her with a huge fine. She was already plowed in so her and her boyfriend went to town digging the Jetta out. Well, she took the steel shovel to her black finish . There were about 30-40 R.I.D.S. (Random Isolated Deep Scratches). After washing and claying, I took 1500 grit wetsanding papers and sanded the crater (indent) of the scratches. I then touched up x 2 (10 mins apart) with Audi touch up paint. Finally, I wetsanded with 2400 grit MicroMesh papers to level the surface and then compounded out with Menzerna PowerGloss via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1700 rpm. Polished with #80 and topped with NXT.

Up close, you can tell slightly, but I'm talking under 2 feet. There is still a little texture there. This might be your chance to experiment. I mean you're already planning on repainting. Give the rotary a shot on some old fenders from a junkyard, then a shot on your vehicle. If not, call some detailers in your area and see if they'll do a process like this.

I might have to try that next time I'm home. Some asshole keyed my Mom's 528i. The entire passenger side is scratched including part of the hood. Whoever did that to my mom's car deserves to have his throat slit.
