Bit different then last time, not house to house confiscations, they're taking them from people using public transportation.

Dont take public transportation then. If I lived there I'd be leaving in my own vehicle. If you don't want to go don't go, they're not being forced some people are staying behind.

:werd: Most anyone who's worth anything I'm sure evacuated on their own, those stuck behind depending on public buses to get out are probably the same people who were in the superdome the first time around.

Not when they enter into yet another voluntary government funded rescue.

I think it's a shitty choice for all those people to be given. I believe everyone should have gotten the hell out of there already, but I doubt that this only affects criminals. New Orleans is a town where not everyone has a car, so some of those people are not criminals, they just don't have transportation.

Plus, just because it's a Government rescue operation, doesn't mean they get the right to subject you to whatever they want, that's horse shit.

It's legal, and as already pointed out, it's pretty different from last time. My question is, are they tagging all these guns so they can be returned to their owners when the storm is over? It would not suprise me in the least if they aren't running every single serial # on those guns while in thier custody.

This reminds me of a time that I gave a bum a dollar. (It was Christmas and I was drunk:mamoru:).
He said "do you have another one"?
I laughed and said "maybe tomorrow"
He said "no, this one is ripped"

Oh I get it  So because they are already being helped out, they should have their guns confiscated because the Government is doing them enough of a favor. I don't think it's asking too much for the non-criminals taking the bus to get to keep their guns. I think this is an issue mainly because the likelihood of them being returned is very slim.

Maybe if they sold their guns, they could have bought a bus ticket out on their own? This shows a lack of personal responsibility.
That being the case, guns aren't like any other personal item. They have the potential to be misused by an emotional/intoxicated person.

If you're not enough of a grownup to sell your valuables to evacuate yourself from a hurricane, you're probably not a good risk for owning a gun in general, much less carrying one on a government funded rescue bus.

i can understand selling a TV or mp3 player in the event of a hurricane, but a gun can be a little more useful in a situation like that :dunno:

You can't say "because someone didn't do ____, they must be _____, and therefore we can treat them as _____. You can't just make stuff up and then draw conclusions about people based on what you just made up unless there is a very direct cause-effect relationship.

this reminds me of biden saying "that guy just called a gun a baby, he MUST be mentally unfit to own a gun because he thinks its a baby".

It was well publicized that if you were going to the evacuation checkpoints and relying on them to get you out of town to not bring weapons with you, as they wouldn't be allowed.

This was a perfect business opportunity for someone. Just like they had people down there collecting and sheltering pets, someone could have taken and sheltered the weapons of those who didn't want to leave them in their home. They could just copy your ID, stick it to your gun, and lock it up in a safe place until you get back to New Orleans. :dunno:

Noted, but I'm going to guess these people had tv's and mp3 players as well.
